Missing Voices Consortium 2007 - 2009

The consortium was established in 2007 when Ulfah Arts invited partners from Denmark and Holland to plan activities leading up to Womex 08. The consortiums work has now come to an end with the following achievements under its belt.

 Provided support and guidance to establish Tavse Stemmer in Denmark, an organisation looking to develop this work locally in DenmarkA tour between Denmark, Holland and UK with six emerging Muslim female artistsEstablishment of internal touring circuits within UK, Holland and Denmark for this area of workAudience development engaging Muslim communities and Muslim women as audiences as well as wider audiencesPress coverage and community dialogue about these issues.

 

The two lead consortium partners Ulfah Arts, UK and Marmoucha, Holland have made their mark on Womex in developing this area of work and are now working with more partners and countries in engaging in this developmental work. We no longer believe Muslim women musicians from the grass root communities have missing voices but have been empowered through the work of this consortium has started and that Ulfah Arts is taking forward on many fronts.
